Once again, I would love to write about something fun and nice for this week. In fact, I picked a topic for consideration which was a story about all of the cherry blossoms (trees) now flowering along the Potomac River in Washington DC. What a fascinating story that is about international and intercultural respect and cooperation. You see the city of Tokyo, Japan donated 3000 Cherry Tree saplings in 1912 to the US Capital, Washington DC, as an act of generosity and friendship.
Tragically, in a rather fast turn of events (especially from 1930 to 1941) Japan's attitude towards the US changed radically, mainly as the result of the U.S. support of China against Japanese aggression, culminating with the invasion of Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. That brings me to my choice of topic for today, the erosion of international relations with many world powers and the risk of conflict presented by it. No matter who you are or what your perspective is, you must know that tensions are building between the US and other “superpowers” and even lesser powers around the world.
This does not have to be the case. It appears as though we are poking at the beast and trying to provoke conflict while, at the same time, diminishing our ability to defend against military aggression. This “plan” has been in motion for decades. It was prescribed by Nikita Khrushchev in 1961 when he said, ”we do not have to destroy America with missiles, America will destroy itself from within”. How prophetic that statement was. Clearly, America appears to be doing just that.
Not in my lifetime have mortality (life expectancy) rates been falling, crime rates been rising at an accelerating rate and economic (inflationary) pressure rising so fast. Indeed, a change is happening. I do not understand the intentional destruction of our institutions, the introduction of alternative genders (there is no such thing) and the provocation of racial division from the top levels of the “elected leaders” of our government.
However, I do know this. God is in control! He has been from the beginning of time and He is our hope. I do hope that we will see a sign of restoration to sanity and a resurgence of love and kindness towards all people, within our country and between peoples of all countries. The gift of life is a gift from God and is not to be destroyed by man. Let us act with civility in our determination to hold steadfast in those principles that have made this country great, reliance on God, strength of the family, respect for our elders and to love all people.
“Strange times are these in which we live when old and young are taught falsehoods in school. And the person that dares to tell the truth is called at once a lunatic and a fool."
-Plato (c.427 - 347 BC)
